The Tao Te Ching is a fundamental text of Taoist and Buddhist principles and is very illuminating..

(a.k.a My Happy Place)

My happy place is really my favorite antique shop where I go and wander around when I need to collect my thoughts (I even have their # in my cell phone contacts listed as, My Happy Place!), but that's another story.

I guess Gifted Quotes really started a long time ago when I was a child. You know, the songs, stories, books, poems that we all collect as we go throughout our lives.

I have this blue binder from the University of New Hampshire that my sister bought for me many many years ago when she was in college and in it I found all of these songs and poems I had written when I was a teenager.

So...I think in a way Gifted Quotes has always been with me...

Here are some of the books that have meant a lot to me over the years...click on a book to discover where a lot of our inspiration for Gifted Quotes come from...

The Velveteen Principles is a new twist on the wonderful book The Velveteen Rabbit. I am always amazed at how much insight there really is in so many of the children's books we all grew up with.

My sister gave me this book. For anyone (and everyone) who has ever felt just a little bit different..

"Follow your bliss" is what Joseph Campbell says. Our "work" should be doing what we were meant to do. Everyone  of  us is here for a purpose and it is in discovering that purpose that life is all about.

My mother used to read this to me when I was a child and I have always loved it...If you're ever in Boston Massachusetts make sure you take a stroll through  the Public Gardens and visit the duck statues along the way....

Hope for the Flowers is a wonderful book about having the courage to become who you were truly meant to be.  One year for Christmas, I gave this book to my nieces.

Leo Buscaglia wrote a lot about love and relationships, the message he tries to get across is wonderful and timeless.

A very wise Japanese folk tale about the quest for power and ambition....

Shirley Jackson is perhaps best known for her short story, The Lottery, but this less known book about raising her children is hysterical, it really is so funny and well written. Every parent should read it....

One of my absolute favorite books of all time. It was originally published in 1885 by Robert Louis Stevenson.  It's beautiful...

This is a wonderful book that, even at my age, I still enjoy reading.  It's called Fun and Thought for Little Folk-A Practical Plan of Character Building. The original version, which I have, was printed in 1912.  When I tried to get my teenage daughter to look at it, she just rolled her eyes at me...which I think, is rather ironic.  Ahhh youth.....

As the story goes, my mother loved this poem so much as a child that my grandfather memorized it. When I was growing up, we would always beg him to recite it for us!  It is a cute tale that is perhaps unfortunately, perpetually stuck in my head-The sun was shining on the sea...

...and if you are ever find yourself wandering the streets of Seattle Washington, you may happen upon a restaurant and bar called-The Walrus and the Carpenter. You can click on the picture to go to their website...

From what I've been told, apparently this was one of my favorite books as a child and I read it over and over again. This book still sits on one of my bookcases. It is still a great book! And I don't care what anybody says, I had to include it in here.
